Ambleside

Nestling in the valley between Wansfell and Loughrigg and on the northern shores of Lake Windermere, Ambleside is a lovely lake district town with many excellent restaurants, homely pubs, first class cinemas and stunning scenery. Much more information can be found at www.amblesideonline.co.uk.

Eating out in Ambleside is an absolute pleasure. The town has more than its fair share of fine restaurants, catering to all tastes. Vegetarians are well looked after with Zeffirellis and its sister restaurant Fellinis, the cosy and wonderful Gandhi's, and, next to Stock Ghyll, the Rattle Gyhll cafe; there are two Thai restaurants, Doi Intanon and Jintana; in addition, there are Dodd's, Sheila's Cottage and Lucy's to mention but a few.

For real ale fans, pubs in Ambleside include the Unicorn and the Golden Rule. Both the Unicorn and Zeffirellis have live music at the weekends. And then there are cinemas attached to Zeffirellis and Fellinis showing all the latest releases.

Of course, there are plenty of outdoor activities, too. Whether you want to play with the children in Rothay Park, amble across to Rydal Mount, Grasmere and Dove Cottage or take on the hills of Loughrigg, Wansfell or the Fairfield Horseshoe, Bonnie Cottage is the ideal place to stay.

Covid-19

We want to make your holiday in Ambleside as safe and as enjoyable as possible, and so we have signed up to Cumbrian Cottages' Safer Stays Policy which ensures:

  • Protection for cleaners: Appropriate training for cleaning staff to enable them to work safely and to appropriate guidelines
  • Cleaned and sanitised: Using anti-viral disinfectant for all surfaces and high touch areas
  • Increased cleaning time: Allowing extra time for additional cleaning during changeover

As a result we have taken out of the property many non-essential items such as games and DVDs, and we have changed our check-in time to 5 pm, and check-out time to 9 am. We now have a key safe and so there is no need to collect the keys and parking permits from Windermere.
